Anti Aging Foods
Potent anti aging foods are just part of the solution in the quest to prevent premature aging. Most people are looking for a
variety of options.
It is now well known that a solid all round healthy nutritional diet that decreases calorie consumption of saturated fats, increases consumption of whole grains, vegetables and fresh fruits is one of the most important factors.
There are also approximatly ten different anti aging foods which have been found to dramatically alter cellular structure which affects aging.
Number one is the avocado which is an extremely healthy source of mono unsaturated fat that can reduce the amount of LDL (L for Lousy)cholesterol.Avocados are also extremely high in vitamin E whilst also being rich in potassium.
We also have berries which contain phytochemicals known as flavonoids. These gifts from nature are very powerul antioxidants which help protect us from damage caused by free radicals.
Blueberries, blackberries and raspberries being some of the most
potent.
Next on the list are the cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage which in turn help the body with it's fight against toxins and cancer.
Keeping these foods raw or cooking them at a temperature of 115 degrees will maintain their enzyme content.
In 1994 there was a study published that suggested women who ate a clove of garlic one day per week are 50% less likely to develop colon cancer.
We also have the scrumptious and juicy watermelon that can be eaten whole or blended to make a delicious juice.
Then there are walnuts, brazil nuts and almonds which are also an excellent source of minerals. These nuts are also rich in potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper and selenium, they enhance the digestive system and the immune system.
One of my favourite power foods is the spicy root of ginger which is frequently utilized in holistic medicine and has
digestive and circulatory boosting properties.
Using the ginger root in a tea and in your food also helps relieve rheumatic aches and pains.
The body also needs help with flushing out all of these toxins and waste materials through the kidneys, so 6-8 glasses of
water per day are in order. I remember as a child I could not get enough water and now I have to force myself.
One important piece of information states that it is important not to rely on thirst as this sensation does decreases with
age.
Funnily enough the first sign of dehydration can be hunger and not thirst.Checking the colour of your urine on a regular basis (which should be clear or a very pale yellow) will let you know how dehydrated you are.
Calorie Restricted Diets and Anti Aging
The American College of Cardiology published a journal of a study where researchers used ultrasound to evaluate the heart
muscles of people who had been on a restricted diet.
Those subjects appeared to have heart muscle tissue which was more elastic than those of age and gender matched control subjects. Their hearts were able to relax between beats similar to the hearts of younger people.
This study was the first to show that long-term calorie restriction added with optimal nutrition has cardiac specific
effects. Research has been done on rats and mice which demonstrated that consistent calorie restriction increased the animals maximum lifespan by about 30%. This also gave them the added benefit of protecting them from hardening of the arteries and cancer.
Up until this point a human study had been difficult because of the strict diet and the ability to ensure that people consume
the correct balance of nutrients.
This study used people who had been on diets that restricted their calorie intake from 1400-2000 calories per day and were
between the ages of 41 and 65. They followed this regimen for about six years voluntarily.
Vitamins and Anti Aging Foods
Another part of the premature aging solution is the intake of the appropriate amount of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants
to assist the body in functioning at its best.
With all the great anti aging foods that I have mentioned above they are a great start and certainly are not the only things that should be consumed in order to improve overall health.
By following a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds that are raw as well as a small amount of milk (as long as you are not allergic) and lean meat protein, whilst taking a high quality multi-vitamin with essential fatty acids, most people will be able to meet the needs of their bodies.
