Understanding Nutrition

Understanding Nutrition

Understanding nutrition and realizing that your body is one amazing piece of biochemistry, is one of the keys to better health.

When I look into the night sky on a clear evening I am always completley in awe of the immense beauty of it all, and so it is with our bodies.

Looking at yourself on a cellular level is just as fantastic as getting to know the universe, and your body is your own personal universe within.

How efficiently your body works as it has to produce hormones, enzymes, get rid of waste products and toxins all has a bearing on how healthy you feel.

How can you help your body do a better job?

By understanding nutrition and giving it the correct tools to work with (your food, correct supplements and lifestyle changes). However not one size fits all and that is because we are all beautifully different, unique.

Understanding nutrition will help you find your way. Understanding nutrition is key to finding out which vitamins and food combinations you would need in order to help you feel better, and even by finding out if any of your current foods are causing you problems.

Tuning into your own body and taking responsibility for your own health is a great step towards a healthier future for you.

Food Is Digested, Absorbed and Then Utilized

If you are not getting enough foods that are a wealth of vitamins, minerals and your essential fatty acids (not optional fatty acids, remember that) slowly but surely your body systems will break down.

You may not see this for a long time, you might just live with having no energy, a feeling of lacklustre and general malaise. You might put this down to getting older and before you know it some disease has crept up on you. Now you are sitting in the doctors office with a condition that you think came all of a sudden.

Understanding nutrition can certainly help put you on a better road to health. Understanding Nutrition and your doctor Your coping strategies may no longer work as you find that you are always on edge, your moods start to be affected and you do not sleep as well as you used to.You might always feel tired (chronic fatique).

As women we can start to experience heavier periods, more period pains and more moodiness.

The longer your body goes without correct nourishment you put yourself at risk of cancers, heart disease, syndrome x, diabetes, depression etc.The list goes on and on......

Many Of Us Eat A Poor Diet

Let's fast forward a little bit, you are now sitting at your doctor's office, you are not feeling well and it has been going on too long.

Your doctor is not going to ask you what you eat, you are more than likely going to be doled out with sleeping pills, antibiotics, anti-depressants or blood pressure tablets.(please don't get me wrong doctors provide us with very necessary treatments)

Understanding Nutrition Is Not Just Putting On A Plaster This is what I call just putting on a plaster, they are not actually cures, they just manage the illness. They do not get to the why!

Infact if we all just cut out our refined carbohydrates, sugars and bad fats (trans fats), decreased caffeine and replaced them with tons of gorgeous vegetables, fruits, lean meats, nuts and seeds and ate good fats
then alot of lives could be changed for the better. As simple as this sounds this is the truth!

Have you ever wondered why when animals get sick like farm animals the veterinarian will find out from the farmer what food and vitamins the animal has been given and offer advice to fix the problem with possibly more nutrients.

I actually asked my own vet why animals seem to get less sick than humans and she told me because most animals food is completley controlled by us.

Isn't it amazing that our veterinarians have a better view on understanding nutrition than many of our own doctors!

Your cat or dog certainly does not go to the fridge (although we did once have a dog who could open the fridge) and whip up a bacon sandwich and grab itself a coke. They are completley reliant on us. Im not saying that their food is perfect either it's just that the vitamins are always listed even on our dog and cat food so that has to stand for something.

You Have The Power

Understanding Nutrition Gives You Power

Knowledge is power and remember "You Have The Power". Most people today do not need really complex treatments they just need a little correct knowledge.

There are also those of us who do eat a really healthy diet but still show symptoms of deficiencies.

That is a little more complex and involves poor absorption and utilisation of your vitamins and minerals.

Some people have food intolerances and approxiomatly thirty percent of people could possible be cured if some of these offending foods were removed from their diets.

Two of the biggest offenders are:

  • Wheat
  • Dairy

Love Your Liver

However not only is it foods that we have to watch out for, our environment plays an important role too.

Pollution, chemicals and pesticides in our food chain, exhaust fumes from cars, medication, cigarette smoke, house cleaners etc.

It is the livers job to detoxify this barrage of toxins and it has a really tough job to keep up these days. The more and more toxins in our environment the more we should be supporting our livers nutritionally.

Research is now showing that liver overload can cause some of the following diseases:

  • Cancer
  • Parkinson's
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Alzheimer's

So really loving your liver can give immense health benefits.

So as you have discovered using certain nutrients and eating healthily is quite different than just popping across to your doctor.

Hopefully whilst working with your doctor you should be able to decrease the medications that you are taking.

Nutritional therapy is there to get your own body functions working better.

So you see understanding nutrition can certainly help you on the road to better health.
